A 27-year-old Russian rapper who goes by the name ‘Walkie’ has killed himself to avoid being forced into the Russian army to partake in the war on Ukraine.
Ivan Vitalievich Petunin was found in a high rise building in in the southern Russian city of Krasnodar some days ago. Before killing himself he left a video message for his fans telling them that he did not want to kill or be part of the violence and once they see his message he would already be dead: “If you are watching this video, then I am no longer alive. I can’t take the sin of murder on my soul and I don’t want to. I am not ready to kill for any ideals”.
After announcing a partial mobilization almost 200,000 Russians have fled to neighbouring countries including Finland, Georgia and Kazakhstan. Many people including late Ivan fear that this mobilization could lead to a full military draft following rumours that Moscow may call on a million men to partake in the currently failing invasion on Ukraine.
