Qatari Emir Comments on Continued Exclusion of Syria from Arab League

news

Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said about the exclusion of Assad and Syria from the recent Arab League meetings, “the [initial] reasons for excluding Syria from the Arab League is still there and has not changed… I am ready to participate in any talks if we have a peace process about the future of Syria and the demands of its people, but this is not the case at the moment. Why do we accept that a leader commits massacres against his own people and expels millions of refugees from his country? Is this acceptable to us as human beings?”

Prior to the gathering there was much speculation that Assad and Syria would be returned to the League as many countries, especially those among the Arab states had seemed to normalize relations with Assad and his regime. However, it seems in this instance that Assad is still on the “outs” with the other Arab states in regards to returning to the consortium.
