According to sources loyal to the Assad regime General Ibrahim Al-Safi died at the age of 83. Al-Safi was from the village of Khirbet Dunya in the countryside of Jableh. He held several military positions during the era of Hafez Al-Assad, most notably the Deputy Minister of Defense and the commander of the Syrian forces during their occupation of Lebanon.
