Failed Assassination of Argentina’s VP

Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner survived an assassination attempt Thursday when a pistol pointed at her head at point-blank range failed to fire. The attacker, identified as a 35-year-old Brazilian national was arrested at the scene.

Kirchner, who was President from 2007-2015, is currently under investigation for corruption regarding alleged misuse of public funds and faces a possible 12 year prison sentence and ban from public office.
