Devastating floods kill 100s & Displace 1,000s in Nigeria

news

A heavy rainy season and excess water from a dam released by Cameroon into the Niger river has seen Nigeria enduring severe flooding. Over 10,000 have been displaced and at least 300 killed due to the rising waters.

Part of the worst damage comes from the loss of crops as agricultural lands in Nigeria’s northern farmlands are inundated. This leaves 17 million in the country in food insecurity in a year already facing severe shortages due to war and the climate crisis.
