Egyptian Mujahideen in Syria Stage Sit in Protest of HTS Executions
Known Egyptian fighters who have participated in numerous battles against the forces of Bashar Assad now have a new battle front: fighting against oppression in territories they helped liberate. This time their tactics are more political than military. “Our goal is to achieve justice and not to shed blood,” one of them stated.
Idlib under the rule of Abu Muhammad Jolani and HTS has not been what was promised. Indefinite detention, torture, and executions are now rampant and widespread. The Egyptian fighters turned protesters are keen not to shed the blood of other Muslims and therefore they staged a sit in at the military court in Idlib. They are demanding the release of two Egyptians who have been languishing in HTS’ prison for years and now, according to their families, have suddenly been charged with being ISIS supporters and are scheduled for execution. OGN has obtained a letter they sent to Dr. Ibrahim Shashoo, former HTS Minister of Justice, and a member of Jolani’s shura council.
They along with thousands of their Syrian brothers remain at the Military court in a standoff with Jolani. The letter is as follows:

As salaamo alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakaatuh,
Dr. Ibrahim Shasho, my brother,
We are Egyptian Muhajir brothers from Egypt, and praise be to Allah, we have been part of this arena from the beginning for more than a decade.
Two of our brothers have been imprisoned in the prisons of HTS; one for two years and the other for more than four years, perhaps more.
Of course, there are other brothers. However, these two in particular are of focus because their wives were informed today that they are accused of being ISIS members and that their sentence is death—hinting at the possibility of their execution being soon.
They are Brother Abu Aisha the pharmacist and Brother Abu Anas Misree.
They are certainly innocent of the accusation of affiliation with ISIS, agreed upon by those who supported them and those who opposed them.
They have committed no crime deserving of death. Has this not become clear to HTS after all these years??
The extent of what their acquaintances know about their charge are issues related to ideological and verbal disputes. They have already spent a long time in prison, beyond what is presumed they have suffered from torture. Isn’t that enough as a punishment for them, assuming that what they are accused of is true?
We personally call on you to be present with us tomorrow morning in front of the Military Court in Idlib.
We seek nothing but the Sharia’ of Allah and what pleases Him. We came to Syria, fought and spent our wealth and blood only for that and in defense of the oppressed Muslims when we were called upon. We did not come to you fleeing from crime or poverty, praise be to Allah. We seek neither reward nor thanks other than to be treated justly and not oppressed.
Today, we call upon you – and you especially, our sheikh – to prevent the execution of these brothers and to expedite the review of their cases and those of other detainees according to the law of Allah and what He approves.
We hope for your reply here on this message and your attendance tomorrow at ten in the morning in front of the Military Court.
Allah is sufficient for us and the best to rely on. We trust in Allah. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the oppressing people.
