ISIS has claimed responsibility for a bold and audacious attack on a Shia place of worship in the Iranian city of Shiraz. Iranian authorities are putting the death toll at 15 killed and 40 injured in the attack at the Shah Cherag shrine. ISIS claims the death toll is at 40 dead and 40 injured.
According to witnesses the perpetrator opened fire on the worshippers just before evening prayers, around 5:45pm. The suspect was wounded and taken into custody.
According to ISIS sources the motive for the attack seemed to be simply that the worshippers were Shia’.
