Following his visit to Erbil and the notorious Hol Camp, US CENT-COM commander, Gen. Michael Kurilla, said that the most permanent solution for Hol camp, east of Hasakah, is the return, rehabilitation, and integration of inmates by their countries.
He also mentioned that the camp represents a real threat to the region and a “humanitarian catastrophe” with the presence of 56 thousand people in it, more than 90% of whom are women and children, amid very high temperatures and a severe water scarcity.
The prison camp, financed in part, by the US and UK has been cited by several human rights organizations for various violations and inhumane conditions, numerous abuses and has a high rate of inmate fatalities due to murder and neglect.
