Over 20 Killed in Suicide Bombing in Afghanistan’s Capital Kabul


According to a statement provided to the press by the Kabul City police chief Khalid Zadran a suicide bomber conducted an attack in the predominately Shite neighborhood of Dashti Barchi in the capital city of Kabul today, Friday 30 September.

Most of the victims were young men and women sitting for practice university entrance exams at the Kaaj Higher Educational Center. A student who witnessed the attack said there were nearly 300 students present:

“We heard the sounds of a few gunshots at the main gate. Everyone was worried and tried to run to a different direction. Soon after that, a huge explosion occurred inside the center, [then] other people ran inside and took us out.”

Abdul Nafi Takor spokesperson for the Interior Ministry said about their response to the attack, “Our teams have dispatched at the site of the blast to find out more details.”

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack which has thus far killed 23 and injured 36, according to Ali Jinah Hospital, it is widely believed that ISIS is responsible for the attack.
