Head of the European Union Mission to Syria, Dan Stoenescu commented on the EU stance towards Assad, aid and normalization:
“There will be no normalization with the regime unless a comprehensive political process takes place. We are working on some projects that provide basic services to the people in Syria. We always make sure that aid reaches those in need and is not stolen by the Assad regime.
The EU is one of the largest donors in northeastern and northwestern Syria. Due to the security situation and the continuous bombing, it is difficult to conduct visits to the areas of northwestern Syria. There is no suitable environment in Syria for the safe and dignified return of Syrians.”
