Coup attempt in Germany

news

German authorities have announced the arrest of 25 people in several raids across the country, after they were suspected of planning a coup attempt against the government.

On Wednesday, German prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 25 people belonging to the organization “Reich Citizens Movement”, suspected of planning a coup against the authorities.

Local media sources quoted the German Minister of Justice, Marco Bushmann saying that the German authorities carried out this morning, Wednesday, a major operation to fight against terrorism, and that the public prosecutor’s office is investigating a terrorist network planning an armed attack  against constitutional institutions.

Among the suspects are a German army special forces soldier, as well as a number of reservists, a leader of the German Alternative Party and a former deputy of the aforementioned campaign.

German authorities reported that around 3,000 members of the authorities launched the campaign in 11 German regions.

It should be noted that the “Reich Citizens Movement” includes individuals from neo-Nazi backgrounds, who do not recognize the modern German state that was created after the collapse of Nazism, abstain from paying taxes and claim that  the German Empire still exists.
